Open your eyes, Love is not blind.

November 25 Today we commemorate the International Day Elimination of Violence against Women. This day was declared in 1999 by the UN General Assembly, to invite governments, NGDOs, and international organizations to organize activities designated to raise public awareness to the problem of violence against women. The date was chosen to commemorate the brutal murder in 1960 of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic, by order of President Rafael Trujillo.
The presentation that we have worked with has been prepared with the material prepared by the Andalusian Institute for Women and you can find on this link: Open your eyes, Love is not blind! .
To end I would recommend this film to proyectafilms entitled "Papas and Mamas" on the linked page appears without a watermark, and there are some interesting short: vg. "Little Mermaid"

World Philosophy Day

Philosophy Day at UNESCO is held every year since 2002, every third Thursday of November . In 2005, UNESCO established the first World Philosophy Day, the initial idea was to encourage people of all the world to share their philosophical heritage and to open up discussion to new ideas, fostering public debate among intellectuals and civil society on the challenges now facing our societies.
Today, November 18, 2010, is celebrated World Philosophy Day. The ultimate goal pursued by this day is to encourage critical thinking and independent. Something which obviously makes us a lot missing.
With this approach we can not support the holding of this event. Call it philosophy, reflection or critical thought, not his name that matters, but the fact of thinking for yourself .
Two young people meet on a Saturday night at a dance and discuss issues related to philosophy, anthropology and, above all, the Epistemology. After listening to this work no one can say that epistemology is boring. Besides enjoying this parody, I suggest the next song about students of philosophy (or Education, who cares).
At the end of the video there are several links, one of them is the famous World Cup final Soccer between Greek and German philosophers.

Milgram studies on obedience

" ... then eventually, I learned that although all men are capable of good and evil, the worst are always those who, when given the wrong do relying on the authority of other , the subordination or the pretext of orders. And if terrible are those who claim to act on behalf of an authority, a hierarchy or a country, much worse are those who believe are justified by any god. Given a choice with whom deal when, sometimes unavoidable, to deal with people who do evil, always preferred to those able to benefit not only their own responsibility. Because of Toledo's secret prisons could learn, almost cost me my life, there is nothing more despicable, and dangerous, an evil that every night he goes to sleep with a clear conscience. Too bad it is. Especially when it comes even with ignorance, superstition, stupidity or power, which often occur together. And even worse when it acts as interpreter of a word, is the Talmud, the Bible, the Koran or any other written or writing. I am not fond of giving advice, I stab anybody from somebody else, "there goes one more cheap: your worships always wary of someone who is a reader of one book."
Arturo Perez-Reverte , " The Adventures of Captain Alatriste. blood cleaning, Alfaguara, pp. 155-156

Stanley Milgram's experiment is designed to explore what happens when they conflict the requirements of an "authority" to their conscience. Why do we obey authority? Should we always obey the authority? Often people tend to consider that most people are good and there are very few evil. Even thought we never would obey orders clearly irrational come from those who come.
Milgram's test was used to check if people had to be "bad" so that she could be persuaded to undertake a "bad action." The result is very easy to convince people to submit their moral beliefs to an "adjustment." It asked a group of students to administer an electric shock every time a fellow gave a wrong answer. The "experimenter" (authority) encouraged them to continue to "punish" their partners in the interests of science - although these had begun to scream and writhe in pain. Some consolation is knowing that the subject was being electrocuted was actually an "actor" who was part of the experiment. The indifference of the "ordinary people" who was inflicting this pain was quite real.
The key question is why does this happen? ie How is it possible that the pressure of a person with authority to impose on our moral sense?
An important conclusion we can draw is that, although generally people expect them to be those committing violent such acts, this does not always happen. In fact people who acted would feel normal, rather prone to it. In reality, little separates us from them not to be aware of the power authority can exert on people, and to that extent be alerts.
philosophers have traditionally suspicious of human nature does not care (with the exception of Rousseau, an arrant rogue), thought that few people they could expect ethical behavior and therefore the company needed a " virtuous man "that rule. Plato included women in its definition of a "guardian" appropriate.
Confucian moral life summarized in one word: "reciprocity." This is the universal "gold standard" of morality not do to others what you would not want us to do to you.

The trial of Socrates

is interesting to know the environment and the time that he lived to Socrates. In class when speaking of the Sophists and Socrates, said it was a moment of enlightenment for the Greeks. Here you have some great footage on the life of Socrates, a great figure in Greek philosophy.

The following video describes the trial of Socrates in the version of World of Sofia. I have already proposed the possibility of making a form of theater staging Read his trial and death sentence. What happened is that the time was upon us and we could not do it.

Here I leave the subject of Socrates and the sophists.

What Kind Of Wood Is Good For Architectural Model

Praise of Helen of Troy

" The word is a powerful sovereign, with a tiny body and completely invisible, divine business done. You can, for example, end the fear, banish sorrow, joy or intensify produce compassion. "
Gorgias, "I commend Helena "

To analyze the effect that the words occur in certain circumstances, Gorgias makes the following analogy: words are the soul and body medicine. With words you can grieve, heal, happy, sick, dope, another chemical and the same effects. Gorgias of Lentini lived a hundred and eight years, and when I came the fatal moment, uttered these words: "I Hypnos (sleep) begins to give me his brother Thanatos (death)" . Thanatos is the dream of ever awake.
The first news of his life that relate to an embassy sent by lentineses Athens, in order to obtain military assistance against Syracuse. The head of the mission was Gorgias, as presented in the agora of Athens dressed in purple from head to foot and causing the admiration of the crowd.
rhetoric or the art of seduction with the word born in Sicily. And Gorgias of Lentini was his teacher, and to excuse most censored women of antiquity, the beautiful Helena, suspected cause of the Trojan War, said he was delighted by the words of her lover.
"I commend Helena" is more than just defending a reviled figure. Gorgias Rhetoric In this piece purports to explain (and justify) what, until then, unjustified: the innocence of Helena when he was seduced by Paris. Who knows what he said? Although it is rather a tribute to the word, a demonstration of the art of modeling the opinion applied to a fact that most take for granted (the guilt of Helena) and yet manages to Gorgias question beautiful words. It shows the power of conviction oratory speech, vital instrument to play the art of persuasion.
Plato called the rhetorical "snake charmers." Gorgias
refutes the four main charges that are made.
If Helena went to Troy for a divine this would be blameless, as the fates can not be challenged by mortals.
If Helena was violently abducted , you can not rebuke for that reason, since it would not have been Helena will therefore not be in fault, but rather should be pitied.
In the event that his departure had been the result of persuasion word, it would also be acquitted, as the spell eloquent work in the listener the same way as if it were taken against their will, because has the power to confuse the view of the soul as needed, regardless of whether or not truly said.
Finally, if Helena fled with Alejandro sake, nor should he incriminate it, since love is unpredictable and has a divine nature that gives primacy on other matters of the soul.

The Ring of Gyges

Slide 4
• The origin of Plato's account is found in Herodotus. Candaules, King of Lydia, fascinated with the body of his wife, invited Gyges, to that observed in secret at the time that was undressing bedtime. The queen realized the presence of the intruder and the next day, given a choice between being sentenced to death, because not only among the Lydians, Herodotus says, but between almost all the Barbarians is a great shame that so let see naked man, or kill the king and marry her. Gyges chose the latter and became king of Lydia.

Can you imagine what would happen if you were invisible? You could do as you wished! No one would catch you. There would be no punishment for your sins.
The Ring of Gyges myth tells it Plato in his work "La Republica" , this story came from Socrates' belief that the human being in the background is good, Glaucon, a student of his, did not believe it well and in opposition told the myth of Gyges. Socrates explains to Glaucon who pursue righteousness that they do not by choice or love it, but simply because they want to avoid the consequences that fall upon them to commit injustice.
then Glaucon challenges Socrates to prove that this widespread view in ethics is wrong. "convince us," he said Glaucon and others who participate in the discussion-that there are strong reasons for doing the right thing, not just reasons as fear of being discovered, but reasons to be valid even if not discovered us. Prove that, unlike the pastor, a wise person who found the ring would continue to do what is right. "
According to Plato, Socrates Glaucon convinced that, for many apparently reaping benefits of injustice, they are just happy who act properly.
because it does not matter what you do in this situation because the fate of who sits on the outside of the human is that of a god or a beast. A beast outside the human, the social, culture, or a god, omnipotent or at least with higher privileges than those of a man.
do good and avoid evil is the old general rule ethics, but do so out of obligation, not choice we make the difference between a good man and a good man.

Brazilian Thick Models

totalitarian society and Plato's ideal tragic hero versus hero

Today's class was divided into two parts:

The first part (and I found most interesting) has dealt with discrimination, and more specifically on racial discrimination. One issue that had little to do with what we seen so far, but has been a good way to start a Monday at first (so we are not asleep and that)
also has not been treated in a theoretical way, but has been through a video, which was quite entertaining and interesting as it was played by some children who were influenced by his teacher, who wanted them to know firsthand what it was discrimination and marginalization, simply by the fact have a different skin color.

And finally, The second part of the class has been speaking out, more boring, so I am left with less stuff in my head. We try to see as the hounds had some influence in the Republic conceived by Plato. In short, consisted of a text on Socrates and the division of social classes that made Plato more detail, the guardians and rulers, were not entitled to the family, or the possession of property. Plato said, after exposure myth of metals, which should be guardians and rulers tell that to possess the soul of silver and gold, respectively, contact with objects made with these precious metals, they corrupted the noble and wise.

This is the text:
"Yes," I said. But let's move on, Glaucon, in a city happy people would not be seemly, nor allow the rulers to join promiscuously with each other or do any such thing.
"It would be nice," he said.
"Clearly, then, that after marriage we will establish all that is holy and beneficial as we can.
"Very true.
"But how will yield the greatest benefits? Tell me, Glaucon: see that your house is hunting dogs and many birds breed. Do you, by Zeus, do not pay attention to the mating and breeding of these animals?
- How? He asked.
"First of all, is not among them, although all are of good stock, some of which are or are better than others?
"There are.
- And you all pups Procures another or you worry that, if possible, born of the best?
-One of the best.
- So what? What the younger or older or those in the prime of life?
-Of those who are in their prime.
"And if not born in these conditions , degenerate much do you think your bird breeds and dogs?
"Yes, yes," he said.
- What "I went on what you think of horses and other animals? Will it happen something else?
"It would be absurd to happen," he said.
- my dear friend! "I cried. What we have great need of exalted rulers if the same is true also in the race of men!
"True. But what that mean?
-A as follows, "I said: our leaders should perhaps be used many times the lies and deceit for the sake of the governed.
"Very reasonable," he said.
"Well, with regard to marriage and the generation seems so reasonable that it will be not insignificant.
- Why?
"From what follows," I agreed, the need for better coexist with the best as often as possible and the worst of the worst in a few occasions, and if you want the herd is excellent as possible, we must raise the offspring of the former but not the latter. All this has to happen without anyone knowing, except the rulers, whether is also hoped that the herd of guardians to stay as far away as possible from all discord.
"Okay," he said.
-will therefore be necessary to establish which parties join the brides and grooms and make sacrifices, and our poets compose hymns appropriate to the marriage taking place. As the number of marriages, we'll leave to the discretion of the rulers, who, taking into account wars, epidemics and all similar accidents, will do their best to keep constant the number of citizens so that our city grows or must decrease to a minimum.
"Very well said.
-will therefore be necessary, I believe, invented an ingenious lottery system, so that citizens have inferior status to blame for the match before his bad luck that the rulers themselves.
"Yes," he said.
Plato , The Republic, Book V , Cap. VIII, 458e-460b

This was all that I remember.

Indianactres Showing Boobes

current

The first lines of The Iliad on the anger of Achilles son of Peleus (no lips), which sends to the death of countless heroes, are very curious:
Sing, goddess, the anger of Achilles son of Peleus; detestable anger that caused the Achaeans countless suffering and so many souls to Hades hurled bold heroes, while those same heroes became the prey of dogs and all the birds ... ( I, 1 et seq.)

What is the soul, the psyche that goes to Hades? Death, the man plunges into total of nowhere? No, the soul separated from the body is a double, a blurred copy of the individual's life, it will recognize the traits of living of the past, although there is no consciousness or life. That soul is like to these forms without density that appear to us in dreams. Achilles actually see the soul of his friend Patroclus, in a dream and wants her in his arms, but it is but a shadow. Achilles awake, frightened, and dam beyond horror, exclaimed:
Ah! No doubt! I know not what is still living in hell, a soul, a shadow that does not live and the spirit. All night has stayed with me the soul of Patroclus miserable, moaning, complaining ... ( Ibid., 103 et seq)
Far from going to the past as to a new world of light and life, the psyche, image without consistency (eidolon) leaves the earthly with regret; as strength goes, his back to the new area that will come, so the soul of Hector :
just spoke, that death ends everything, it envelops. His soul separated from its members and party, flying, to Hades, crying over his fate, leaving the force and youth (XXII, 361 et seq.).
[...] In conclusion, according to Homer and the tragic, life is the only reality, and death, his gaunt shadow. And since we must die, it even "die well", with beauty, Thanein Kalos.
Excerpt of Charles Moeller, "Greek wisdom and Christian paradox"

the cinema (from the Greek Kineo : move and grafein: describe) plays a role today similar to that played the theater among the Greeks. By imitating reality plays a role socializing and appears as mass culture and generating public opinion.

The Greeks knew that education, has to reach the needed sensitivity sentimientos.Y tragedy: a dense story, where the mean is negligible and the heroic appeal. Similarly, the film can get those same effects, it is a way to represent deeply human stories, so that the corrupt and depraved appear as such, and to give a corresponding rejection by social criticism.

The aesthetics of good films always leads us to ethics, as we talk about this drive for logic and human behavior. However, the film can also be an instrument of manipulation . And that film tries to please its customers, producing pleasure. In the writers you like the life of evil (they are more entertaining and fun). ethics in today's cinema, is often aesthetically boring.

Zeno's paradoxes Six Thinking Hats

As
you can see the bullet is a mistake because the paradox attributed to the teacher and not his disciple.
The question for Zeno is: it is not impossible "show" movement but "prove" their existence rationally. I wanted to show that the great diversity of the world itself was a mere illusion, that reality was composed of an eternally unchanging unity. He denied the notion of time, movement or any plurality of objects. The result of all their efforts is a set of forty paradoxes. Most have been lost. But there are three in particular that has caused many problems for philosophers and mathematicians for two millennia and a half. The most famous is the of Achilles and the tortoise , then there is the paradox of the arrow and the stadium or midpoint.
Zeno was asked what was the most that could be drawn from the philosophy and said, " Contempt of death" and it seems that on the last day of his life had the opportunity to demonstrate the validity of this statement (he cut his tongue bite, fell pierced by the swords of Nearco guard, who ordered them to be crushed in a mortar and reduced to small pieces).

In the video below, 172 students Communication from the University of Quebec and Montreal (Canada), seem to want to refute Zeno's paradoxes. Made this spectacular performance of "I Gotta Feeling", the last track "Black Eyed Peas." The video is shot in sequential level, ie without cuts, or "a", which requires a perfect coordination. And as I said Antisthenes, when Zeno asked him to stop moving: Let's see where we were! There is movement or not?

What's The Best Epilator

the role of women in Greece

Seis sombreros y mujer

I have taken the Latin Department of IES Diego Prades. And I think we will make it easier to think with each of the six hats.

What have we done? making brief notes in class. 2 .-
What have I learned? What and memory? more detailed development of content and procedures used in class, this task is done at home. 3 .-
DAILY REFLECTION according to the following model:

Brother Picnik Quotes

class

"Carpe diem" is a Latin phrase that literally means "harvest the day, it also means enjoying the day, was coined by the Roman poet Horace (Odes, 11.8).

We have seen the parallels between the Stoic position to the present and the "carpe diem" Latino. According to the Stoics, and taking the text of Seneca "In the brevity of life," the two evils that weigh about human existence, both brakes that block us from living fully in the present, is the nostalgia and hope, this is The attachment to the past (with his remorse) and concern for the future (which are part of future projects.)
This idea is reflected in the movie "Dead Poets Society" when the teacher says:
"... today is not repeated. Live every moment intensely, it does not mean crazy, but treating each situation, listening to each partner, trying to make every dream positive, seeking each other's success, the fundamental subject examinándote: Love for one day regret not having wasted selfishly your capacity to love and give life. Carpe Diem "I would particularly bring you joy" Justification

The first contact with a new course is absolutely essential. Start the first class, with a little surprise, and this phrase appears Michel Barlow in her book "Diary of a teacher rookie. And I remember his idea that" not get to do anything that is worth punishment if we do not really form a team, " (something like Cirque du soleil ). The "carpe diem" of Poets dead and Stoic reflections on the concept of time, we allow this first approach.

The Greek word legein means to say, express, tell, but together. It comes from the Latin Lego, which translates as Read . And reading. And law. And dialogue. And, of course, Logos. Logos in its most original means "word" . legein is the exercise of logos. Legein meets the diverse and emerging voices, only some people have a voice when we listen and respond. legein the logos become action. From what it is to say, talk, tell you something, from our own work as a student of philosophy. When you have something that is done is to bring to the presence of the word, that is, uncovers , it reveals .

For Heidegger, its primary sense is an idea: Gather . And this is a more clear, if we think it important that the meetings were for the Greeks, and getting together to form what we now call civilization. The cops , democracy. And no wonder that this verb has given birth to the word, thought, reason, the myth or the law. All these senses Logos can be purchased.

And today people seem to say much, but do not listen with equal attention. We have a terrible need to say and not be silent, and the words eventually become empty and instead to approach, meet, end up far apart. This blog aims to do the same for this verb: meets that brings together students and others in reading and listening to this saying . This corresponds to legein is back together, but back together around the philosophy.

[Reflections extracted from "Editorial", Journal legein, and adapted to the Blog] .
